Mr. Marquez joined the Texans Can! Academies team in March 2007. From his experience generating funds, work in the Nation's Capital, time as a school superintendent, president of his own company and now president of Texans Can! Academies, his multi-faceted background gives him a comprehensive view of the education system.
- Established the first long-range grant of $32 million to study possible dropout prevention solutions while working for the US Department of Education.
- Wrote and received a grant from the Mobil Oil Foundation to fund the first use of a social worker to work on dropout prevention.
- Assisted in the graduation rate increase of 40% to 70% during his time as principal of Sunset High School.
- Work at Sunset High School recognized by national media and press including the Today Show, the Oprah Winfrey Show and the Cristina Show, to name a few.
His nonprofit career began with the YWCA of Metropolitan Dallas, where he was Director of Business Services. In this role, he was responsible for all aspects of facilities maintenance, network administration, vendor relations, security and janitorial services for six facilities in Dallas, Irving, Richardson and Garland, Texas.
As Chief Operating Officer, Malcolm is responsible for ten facilities throughout Texas, and expansion planning for additional campuses. Since joining Texans Can! Academies in 2005, he has managed real estate, facilities, janitorial, vendor relations, warehouse operations, security, asset control, contracts and legal, vehicle fleet maintenance and insurance. In 2011, his scope expanded to include Cars for Kids, which is the fundraising arm of Texans Can! Academies.
While in the U.S. Marine Corps., Malcolm consistently demonstrated leadership skills as he managed all aspects of human resources as personnel officer. As Chief Warrant Officer 3, he also ran the Division Joint Reception Center, which added the responsibilities of Adjutant, legal, postal, public affairs, logistics, and security management.
Malcolm's volunteer experience and community involvement include the American Youth Soccer Association as coach and referee; Capistrano Beach Cities YMCA in California and the YMCA of Metropolitan Dallas.
He received his Bachelor of Arts in Business Administration from St. Leo University, in Tampa Florida.
Jennifer is currently an Officer for the Fort Worth Independent Automobile Dealers Association and has been for the past 6 years. She has been the Secretary on FWIADA Executive Committee for the past 3 years.
Jennifer graduated from Grand Prairie High school in 1990. She has been married for 21 years and has 2 children. She enjoys reading, boating, and spending time with her family.
She loves the work she does for Cars for Kids and is excited about the many years to come.
Erica began her career in the auto auction industry in 1996. She brought her expertise to Cars for Kids in 2007 as a part time auction clerk. In 2010 she came on full time and became Assistant Director in 2013. She is in charge of our asset inventory, employee policies/procedures and quality control.
In 2013 Erica graduated from Texas Auction Academy and received her Texas State Auctioneer License on September 23, 2013.
Erica is the proud Mother of two children; both received their high school diploma from Dallas Can! Academy in Oak Cliff. She enjoys putting her creativity to work through crafts, cross stitching, and ceramics.
